The book by the famous photographer Jan Bułhak (1876–1950) publishes two literary works: the memoirs “The Land of Childhood Years” and the collection of eighteen short stories “Homes”. The memoirs cover the years 1882–1886, spent in his native Ostashino estate. J. Bułhak lovingly describes his native home, parents and relatives, childhood games, impressions of trips around the Novgorod region, visits to neighboring estates, and homeschooling before leaving for Vilnius Gymnasium. It is a hymn to his native land, a confession of love for his father and mother, and the apotheosis of rural life.
The collection of autobiographical short stories is a continuation of the famous "Photographer's Travels in Vilnius" and its surroundings, only now it returns to the land of childhood.
