Description

International Exhibition "Woven Symbol of Statehood", vykstančios Valensijos Šilko muziejuje 2025 06 25–2025 12 21, katalogas.

In the 16th century, Lithuania united with Poland and together with it formed one of the largest European states - the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The country's territory in the 18th century covered more than a million square kilometers. It also included the territories of present-day Belarus and Ukraine, as well as parts of Russia, Latvia, Estonia, Moldova and Slovakia.

During the existence of the Commonwealth of Nations, its borders, capitals, and monarchs changed, but the parliament always functioned. In it, the most important issues were decided by the political class – the nobility. To distinguish themselves from other nations and classes, the nobility of the Commonwealth of Nations wore a unique luxurious costume called a kontuš, the most important detail of which was the impressive kontuša belt.

A kontuša ribbon is a luxurious multi-colored ribbon, 3–4 m long, designed to tie a kontuša. It is considered a miracle of weaving technique – an exceptional cultural heritage value.

Languages: Lithuanian, English, Spanish, Catalan.
