Photographer Antanas Ingelevičius (1892–1947) and his archive of negatives are a new page in the history of Lithuanian photography. Coming from a noble family and choosing a Lithuanian identity, Ingelevičius settled in Kaunas in 1920, which became the political and cultural center of the Lithuanian state. He tried acting and chose the path of a photographer. He photographed most intensively in the 1930s.
Ingelevičius' archive is like a mosaic reflecting various aspects of life in the temporary capital. It is a photographic document of the "Vilkolakis" theater (1919–1925) and the first manifestations of bohemia, it is a social and urban revelation of Kaunas, it is a diary of family everyday life.
This publication, published in Lithuanian and English, publishes for the first time the photographer's entire photo archive (836 pieces) and contextualizing it with articles by museum curators Vitalija Jočytė and Gytis Grižas, art historian Dr. Margarita Matulytė, and architectural historian Dr. Vaidas Petrulis.
Ingelevičius's works were first presented to the public in 2022 at the exhibition "Antanas Ingelevičius: Creator and City" organized by the National Museum of Lithuania.
