Photographer Antanas Ingelevi\u010dius (1892\u20131947) and his archive of negatives are a new page in the history of Lithuanian photography. Coming from a noble family and choosing a Lithuanian identity, Ingelevi\u010dius settled in Kaunas in 1920, which became the political and cultural center of the Lithuanian state. He tried acting and chose the path of a photographer. He photographed most intensively in the 1930s.<\/p>\n
Ingelevi\u010dius' archive is like a mosaic reflecting various aspects of life in the temporary capital. It is a photographic document of the \"Vilkolakis\" theater (1919\u20131925) and the first manifestations of bohemia, it is a social and urban revelation of Kaunas, it is a diary of family everyday life.<\/p>\n
This publication, published in Lithuanian and English, publishes for the first time the photographer's entire photo archive (836 pieces) and contextualizing it with articles by museum curators Vitalija Jo\u010dyt\u0117 and Gytis Gri\u017eas, art historian Dr. Margarita Matulyt\u0117, and architectural historian Dr. Vaidas Petrulis.<\/p>\n
Ingelevi\u010dius's works were first presented to the public in 2022 at the exhibition \"Antanas Ingelevi\u010dius: Creator and City\" organized by the National Museum of Lithuania.<\/p>\n
