Description
The catalogue of the international exhibition "Kievan Rus'. The Beginning" presents the history of this rich and multicultural early medieval Eastern European state, which is located in present-day Ukraine, based on scientific research, written sources, and authentic archaeological exhibits.
The catalogue reviews individual themes presenting the most important processes of almost 500 years of history: the history of origin influenced by external forces (Scandinavians, Balts, Finns) and internal forces (Slavs); connections with Scandinavia and the Viking tradition of rule; connections with the lands of the present-day Baltic States; collapse and echoes of the continuation of traditions in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The exhibition displays and catalogues more than 700 exhibits from almost two dozen museums and institutions from seven countries.
The catalog is published in Lithuanian and English.
