Before the war, the most massive campaign to crack down on the Lithuanian population was carried out on June 14–18, 1941. In June 1942, about 2.3 thousand Lithuanian exiles from the Altai Territory were transported to the Arctic, to the Laptev Sea. The richly illustrated book contains photographs of the icy captivity and days of suffering, as well as other archival material, collected by the compiler of the publication, Mindaugas Markevičius and his wife Aldona, from the Laptev brothers-in-arms.
